Close to.. who?
Today’s big question is why I sent an email to myself at 1am last night, saying nothing but “close to you”.
Actually, it’s far less mysterious than one might think. We were dancing at Núcleo De Arte and the DJ was playing oldschool funk and New Jack Swing. The reference is to a song that I was very happy to hear and wanted to look up once I got home, the problem was I couldn’t remember the title, and that I wanted to dance rather than write. So I sticked with these three words that I can’t even google nor use to spark my memory. Instead, I’ll use the email and this blogpost to reminisce about yesterday’s adventures, it was like being sixteen all over again. The music, the athmosphere, the giggles!
And to ease your dissapointment for this not being a juicy novel about some mysterious person that I suddenly was being oh-so-close with, I give you three girls in LBD’s and an intensely bouncing Bobby instead.
Yogi Tea
The little Yogi Tea quotes might be incredibly cheesy, but they do spark a little mini thought somewhere in there. Besides, the tea is wonderful. Good night.
(Anybody coming from Europe soon? Please bring me more of this amazing, ecological, tasteful awesomeness!)
Rain.
Little helper
The little peacekeeper is helping us in the UNICEF pavilion at FACIM today.
Pictures and Sleep Party People
Maputo is cloudy today after yesterday’s storm, and I’m soon going back to FACIM. It’s the last day today and I expect to get promotional T-shirts, bags and random business cards thrown at me all day, as in the ending of most expo’s.
Anyway, while relaxing at home yesterday I found a song that I would like to share with you.
This messy little beat was released a month ago by Andrea x Kodak To Graph and it’s called Pictures. The tune is so random that I can’t really think of in what occasion it would be perfect to listen to. Other than now, that is. I guess it’s one of those songs that you would put in a “random” or, as in my case “Pretty Much Amazing” playlist on your iPod and look up at those moments when you’re not really sure what you want to listen to. Yes, that’s exactly what this song is for: For when you’re looking forward to something great, without yet knowing what it is. Ha!
The second song goes in the same playlist. Here’s Sun Glitters featuring vocals from Danish Sleep Party People, edited by Tours. The song has been named Alone. I would say it gives the feeling of the good kind of alone, though.
This one was released 10 days ago, and I don’t know if you noticed, but there are download buttons up there. The artists are sharing these fresh pieces of art, awesomely, legally and for free. Because sharing is caring. Ciao!
Last days at FACIM
Tons of people here – and of course, UNICEF is still around as well, tomorrow is the last day of FACIM. On my first day, when passing by the Turkish pavilion, I told the hosts there how much I like their coffee and got the promise that I could get a bag of the coffee they serve in the pavilion if I come by in the end of the fair.
And guess what, they kept their promise!
To the rescue
Things that will save you if you are going to sleep after sunrise in a house where the family with two loud little children will be waking up in one hour.
What a great night, really. We visited three different clubs and only stopped dancing when the sun came up. The new girls were teaching me some steps and a Malawian dance that looks like: “ouch, I’ve hurt my back!” So much fun.
Boa noite.
Hello Moto
Traditional healers are still a big deal here in Mozambique. They offer to help out with anything from stomach ache to heart problems, and promise to ensure a salary increase, new cars, love, and luck. Just like Doctor Moto above.
A taxi driver once told me that the “real” healers go through some kind of three year advanced training where they learn traditional medicine and other tricks, and one of their main rules is that they are forbidden to advertise their services. That people instead know them through the community and they are very popular and important.
So ‘everybody’ around uses the healers. The ‘real’ one’s, the commercial one’s, the very expensive and famous one’s. And I’m starting to get very curious about what Doctor Moto would tell me if I asked him to hook me up with a higher salary and somebody to love. What do you think? Maybe I should call him, maybe at least to say “Hello Moto.”
