I love being able to come in after a proper breakfast and then sit in the office until late, which is my prime time in terms of productivity. In the Embassy I always had to be in at 7.30 and leave before all the diplomats had left.. Here, I can just stay around as long as I want to, listen to music, and keep on working – managing my own time. #likeabaws.
Yesterday when my friends picked me up to take me to Catembe, the driver was playing one of my favourite songs ever that I hadn’t heard in a really long time. I was euphoric, sang along and wouldn’t let him change it, he said that “Something about us” was the only one he had from the album – which was perfect as it was the only one I wanted to hear. We crossed the bay and ended up all having a great night out, as you already know.
Just now, while blogging and chatting on Facebook about yesterday’s evening and photos – the same friend writes “Your Portuguese is stellar” which I find being a nice expression. Around that moment, I go: “pick a random number” and he picks the number 19.
Why I wanted a number? Because I sometimes pick a random page in my blog to read, you know, the way you sometimes would open an old book in the middle just to dive into those memories again.
The weather today is so fantastic it makes me think of and consider taking that 10 hour bus up to the land of palm trees again. I guess I will have to check whether my friends there have time and space for me. I see you’re liking my videos by the way – here’s another one – from a Xapa to Tofo in Inhambane. Let’s see if I at least find a beach somewhere closer by tomorrow. Anyhow, I’m wishing you all a great weekend.
Here’s a short video that I shot today while walking home from work. The weather was great and I was in the mood to babble but nobody would pick up their phones, so I spoke to myself instead, and to my phone. Or okay, I guess it was to you – so if you haven’t heard me speaking in Swedish yet, this is your big chance. 39 seconds of nonsense, and a hello from a stranger – go!
You already know how much I love to drive. I’ve been nagging about about how my father used to race with cars and how I was taught how to drive long before getting my license. What I haven’t told you, however, is why I find it so great.
The freedom of being able to move quickly and independently from one place to another is, of course, the most basal benefit of having access to a car. The feeling of complete independence and freedom, and then, of course, there’s the music. In a car, the music embraces you in a way it can never really do in a room, the feeling of a vacuum, the sound bouncing off the walls in a very limited space that you become a part of. The sound bouncing off of you. You singing along. Sounding pretty bad but feeling pretty awesome. Happiness.
I recently shot some videos, one of them is from Maputo and the other one from when I was in Malmö, cruising with Angie Stone. I sometimes film random little bits and pieces of my daily life to try to capture some essential feelings and the surroundings I today take for granted but tomorrow might be wondering about. Here you have two of those – they are about the unconditional love I feel for driving. And about random music.
And to all my dear nerd followers, I know I haven’t been entertaining you for a while, but I can tell you that Avast recently updated their Android mobile security app to awesomeness beyond that of prey, check it out here.
One of the first things I checked when I found out I would be living in Mozambique was the access to a 3G network.
It was set up in the country just three months before my arrival but the network works very well and my nerdy self is very happy about it.
I might be far away, but I’m still very much connected! And now I’m back.
No time for sleeping or unpacking, I headed straight to the office – and just now we’re going to a place to make my UNICEF ID. Maybe not the most flattering day to take that picture, not at all. Haha :)
