Monday: Camels, rabbits and Savasana.

This morning I woke up early and signed up for a challenge to my discipline, mind and body. As my whole existence was pouring out through my pores while I was stretching into the camel, rabbit and a couple of Indian gods, the 40 degrees in the room weren’t bothering me at all. On the contrary, I was loving it.

Bikram Yoga in Malmö, 10 days of intense sweating, stretching and detox. I’m giving my hopes that the Savasana breaks will help me survive this, and I might give you a full report of this fantastically relaxing hippie torture if I do.

Bunny

I bought a little fluorescent bunny for myself when living in Copenhagen back in 2011. Sharing a little house with a roomie that would come home only for a couple hours per week left me with a lot of time to contemplate, read and be with myself.

The evenings were dark and very cold, and I would light candles in the entire house, play music, drink huge cups of tea, and sometimes dance alone. There was always enough time for dinner prepared with a lot of care, a glass of wine and The Guardian Weekly.

When I saw this little bunny I just had to buy it, it was the perfect click of changing colours and silent company to my calm and voluntarily solitary evenings.

Then at one point Leonie showed up, and tea became something that was best enjoyed together. Along with cookies, of course. And Mad Men. And sometimes laundry.

The bunny is still around to remind me of my cold and dark but oh-so-cosy and fantastic evenings in Copenhagen. That was life when I worked at WFP, and the director insisted that weekends and evenings were free time. Ah, the luxury..

Night drive

There’s something about driving at night, and some songs feel like they were made for exactly this. Good night, Malmö.

For those of you who are wondering, here’s the sound by Kreidler. It was originally released on 12″ Vinyl in 2000, and then featured on the fantastic Eve Future album two years later, changing the title of the song from Circles to Circulus.

Yours nerdy

Reporting live from the city of boredom, your own nerdy gadget Caroline has just received a pair of glasses to accompany her many other accessories and complete the nerdy look in style.

The Synology NAS is currently resting on my desk after years and hours of availability online. All the content from my external harddrives has now been backed up, the photo archives are safe, and the other harddrives, hiding shyly behind big, white mister Synology, speak of years of GB’s and hilariousness that all one day will be dug up and enjoyed.

Having your own server is pretty convenient, even though I lately have been living in places where the bandwith hasn’t been allowing me to use it for what it’s supposed to be used.

My new 11.6″ ASUS is a bliss for both the eyes and the ears. The crystal clear sound that this little fellow manages to sing out is amazing thanks to that little Bang & Olufsen chip. Its shell is made entirely of brushed metal, and it is pretty damn thin and light.. and smart.

Oh, and about the glasses. I went to check my eyesight to see whether my -1.25 error had changed since I checked two years ago. Talking to the optician, I found out about their campaign where checking the eyes wouldn’t only be much cheaper than normally, but where I would get a pair of glasses for free as well. Double-win! I have never had a pair of glasses as I went straight to contact lenses – but I see that it will be very useful when all you want to do is watch a movie and let your contacts rest peacefully in their little box. Or when those vicious pollen allergies strike. So, my eyesight is the same, but my eyes have now officially been framed.

I’m kind of just about as geeky as before. And the hair is a joke. See?

Friday News

image

Hey Friday, I know you’re tired and cold and all that, but can’t you at least try being a little bit more pleasant?

Oh, finally got some news from the slow office in the southern hemisphere.

The notice informed about extended beauracracy, prolonged processes and delayed deadlines.. so basically I know just as little as before, or maybe even a little bit less. Ah, beloved UN system, Y U so damn complicated?!

Weekend full of movies

image

Winter has taken over, it’s very cold, and I’m in Malmö with my new grey beanie.

Went to the cinema to watch Les Miserables today, it was fantastic. So was Django Unchained on Friday, by the way. I would give you a small review but I’m going to sleep now so all I can say is that Anne Hathaway’s “I Dreamed a Dream” solo blew me away, just like hearing 2Pac and other randomness on the Django score did. Quentin is a genius.

This weekend full of movies (and just a little bit of salsa) will be followed by seriousness, errands, and things that just need to be done.

And hopefully some important and exciting emails in my inbox..
