Exitoso Carnaval de Nicaragua 2013

So I just got an email from Erick Ruiz José from the Canal 8 TV channel here in Nicaragua, they were one of the TV teams who surprised me while I was taking photos of the carnival by putting a big camera in my face and asking “What do you think of Nicaragua?!” There were so many things I could have said about the context, about the athmosphere, about the country or even about the objectification of bodies – but I just couldn’t find a way to put it into the surprise moment and I didn’t have the heart to start criticizing anything in the midst of the great vibe of the event – so I just went with the least creative but most easy answer: The people are very good, very beautiful, I LIKE IT!

Maybe not the best performance right there, but hey – Look mom, I’m on TV in Nicaragua! haha

Surrealism and Destiny

Originally a collaboration between two of the world’s most influential and distinguishable artists, the short film Destino was only finalized and released 58 years after the beginning of its production in 1945. You won’t possibly overlook the very clear influence from both Walt Disney and Salvador Dalí, mindblowing Surrealism that meets classic Disney animation, with a touch of Mexican music written by Armando Dominguez, performed by Dora Luz.

And a beautiful story. It’s perfect.

Salvador Dalí & Walt Disney – Destino
(2003)

I shared this video two years ago, but it was taken down shortly after.. Now that it’s online again in beautiful HD quality I had to share to let you enjoy one of the most beautiful videos I know of. The more times you watch it, the more details you find, actually, two years later and after watching it many times (I have a copy on my harddrive) – I’m still discovering little parts I didn’t see before.

Full screen, full HD, focus, love!

Tobago

Beautifully filmed by Swedish Jesper Bolmén, this piece from 2011 manages to capture my exact impression and experience of life in a surfer’s paradise. Tobago, Tamarindo, Tofo. Palm trees.

Jonas Rathsman – Tobago (2011)

By the way, guess what, more surprises – that field trip that I didn’t get on my flight for today got cancelled three hours later due to external reasons. So if I had gotten a seat, I would have just had to travel straight back anyway.

Being surprised is one of the most interesting feelings out there and I adore the fact that life keeps doing this to me.

Good night, world.

Alza la mano si tu estas gozando!

“Raise your hand if you’re enjoying!”

El General – Muevelo (1991)

The reggae artist El General from Panama is often referred to as the father of reggae in Spanish. During the early 1990’s he initiated the Spanish spoken dancehall, the beginning of what we today know as reggaeton.

This song is very often played in the clubs, shops and restaurants around here and when people dance to it they start cheering and throw their hands up in the air. There’s mostly a screen around as well, and I just had to share this video – it’s the Central American MC Hammer!

13 Seconds of Fame

Here’s how much I can share with you from the video that was aired on Finnish National TV in March. It’s from the field trip I went for with the actress, singer and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Iina Kuustonen, and the Finnish National Committee for UNICEF. The several videos that we planned and filmed last year in Mozambique’s poorest district were aired during a live children’s fundraising TV gala in Finland, and my emergency Portuguese interpreting abilities and I are very happy to have supported this initiative.

Allen Stone live @ Babel, Malmö.

Danced to the fantastic voice and souly vibes of mega-talented and charismatic Allen Stone and his band yesterday at Babel here in Malmö. Ah, the euphoria! Live music is one of my top favourite things in the world, especially when played in an intimate place like this where I can come up close, breathe the lyrics in, and dance my mind off.

Videos and photos below. Enjoy!

Oh, come on. Boost it up to 1080p HD, already!———–

And here’s an absolutely fantastic cover of Bob Marley’s “Is this love?” – it is!

If you are into soul music and ever get a chance to see this guy live, do it. It’s like getting on a ride all the way back to the golden years of Motown. Goosebumps guaranteed.

Suddenly I’m hit.

Two years after releasing his fantastic self titled debut LP, James Blake has finally announced April 8th as the release date for his upcoming album, Overgrown. The first single, Retrogade, unveiled just a couple of days ago, has today been officially released – along with a stunning video that I haven’t managed to get my mind around yet. You guys try figuring it out and let me know what’s going on..

I can’t wait to listen to the entire album and I’m very much looking forward to an opportunity to hear this genius self-sampling, multitasking, instrument-mixing voice magician live once again. I barely knew him back when I saw him live in 2011, I had just spent an entire afternoon indulging in the sounds of the James Blake LP hanging by myself in a hammock at a friends house on the same day that we were going to the concert.

Then we went to church, and one could say that I was “enlightened”.

Beats from Poland

Just stumbled upon this new tune by the Polish beatmaker Kixnare. Released last week under U Know Me Records, the video is a story as seen from the perspective of a young Polish girl who is tired of her ordinary job and dreams of a modelling career. Directed by the photographer and videographer Miron Chomacki who usually focuses on nude art, it is not a surprise that most of the video is tip-toeing on the verge to soft porn, with peepshow styled shots, fingers on lips and glimpses of nipples. Dominated by red colour, probably referring to the name of the upcoming album, the video is slightly monotone but very nicely filmed and beautiful. Due to all the cuts and teasers, however, it very soon becomes quite distracting if one wants to judge whether the sound actually is good.

Let me tell you now that it is. Filled with the illusion of falling drops, cautiously flat drumbeats, pretty bass and some synth sounds bridging the whole thing, the tune is backed up by a great, very well linked and super catchy sample from the oldschool R&B song Beauty Queen by Next.

“Like you was a super model, had your little Gucci dough.”

All in all, I’m definitely loving it, lingerie included.

Just don’t forget to boost it up to HD before listening, for the sake of the details in both sound and video.

Can I have my bag, please?

“Okay, this is your stop – bye!”
“But excuse me, I need my bag.. it’s in there.”
“Where?”
“Right there – please get it out.”
“In there?”
“Yes. Please.”

“Lady come, come with me, come with me, come with me.”
“Wait, I want to get my bag first..”

India 2010, or is it needless to say? Wonderfully unpredictabe country. An engine, who would have thought?
