Bring on the weekend

I know it’s just tuesday, but Class Actress is releasing her new album today, and you want to know about that, right? She’s from Carpark Records, the same label that brings us the enchanting tunes of Toro y Moi, Beach House and Memory Tapes. The video for Weekend is a mix of collarbones, beautiful lingerie, peep-show styled soft porn and retro party. Happy beats & synths. Just what you need when dreaming about the weekend.

Class Actress – Weekend
Rapprocher (2011)

Performing under the moniker Class Actress, Elizabeth Harper’s latest album, Rapprocher, sounds a bit like what would happen if Dave Gahan, Oscar Wilde, and Madonna curled up together in the corner of a dark bar for some heartbreak-fueled debauchery. The follow-up to her 2010 EP, The Journal of Ardency, Rapprocher is an 11-song odyssey about the tumultuousness of the heart. It’s a lovelorn tale that’s dark and weary, with just enough synth to make it danceable. Lyrical sadness is skillfully applied to the disco beats and feel-good melodies scattered throughout the album.

Grundvän Vogue

A grundvän is the person you can just always hang out with. With or without dancing shoes on, with or without a movie, with or without a specific thing to do. It’s the person you can spend hours with without talking, or doing nothing but. Or dancing, or laughing, or singing, or eating.. You know, no limits, no rules, no layers. Now, Vogue.

Robert Jeffrey, today in his 30’s, still loves Madonna.
So, who’s ready for Monday? :)

Adolf Dymsza & Eugeniusz Bodo – Ach śpij kochanie
Paweł i Gaweł (1938)

Adolf Dymsza and Eugeniusz Bodo singing the lullaby “Ach śpij kochanie” (Oh sleep, my love) in the Polish musical comedy Paweł i Gaweł from 1938, based on the writings by Aleksander Fredro. This is high quality nostalgia. Sing the song to any polish person and they will know that it is time to go to sleep.
Because the moon is already yawning and it will fall asleep soon.. Dobranoc.

Samba

I’ve had the nicest of evenings with the girl I now live with. We’ve shared chocolate, wine, lifestories, music and the addiction we both have to travels. Now I need some samba, some love in the air, some happy people and some dancing. I want Havana, I want Maputo, I want Mexico City and just a little bit more of Rio de Janeiro. Miss Sabine just gave me the travel bug again and I’m ready to jump on a flight and go, at least for ten days.

Amadou et Mariam

After work today I met with my lovely colleagues and boss and we went to see Amadou et Mariam live at Malmö Festivalen. They are a blind musical duo from Mali and the music is something defined as afro-blues or afro-rock. They mix different styles and the result doesn’t allow you to stand still for a second! The show was great, we danced and had a really good time.. and Amadou & Mariam are WFP ambassadors that our boss in a way knows so we actually got to meet them after the concert! So nice.

The long walk home

The long walk home, by CarolineBach
Rajasthan Desert, India. October 2010

The origins of the Roma people, also referred to as Gypsies and Romani, can through linguistic and genetic evidence be traced back to India, and more specifically, Rajasthan. When I was in India I immediately noticed the stiking resemblance between the the languages and I was amazed by the fact that  I could use some of  my very limited vocabulary in Romani, that I had learnt when working with Roma children in Sweden, to communicate in and understand some basic Hindi. Culturally, the Roma people have, despite of their wide dispersion around the world, managed to keep many of their traditions and values intact. Their vibrant musical culture has had a vast influence on traditional Balkan Music, Andalusian Flamenco, and even European classical composers such as Brahms and Liszt. Following is a part from the movie Latcho Drom, meaning Safe Journey which is a documentary about the journey of the Roma people, along with their charismatic culture and dancing, from the Rajasthan desert to Adalusia in Spain.
