Glöm aldrig Srebrenica!

Another day of studying equals another day of procrastinating.

The course I’m doing right now at the University of Queensland is about International Peacekeeping and focuses on the work of the UN around the world.. This picture that I took in Sarajevo fits well into the context: never forget Srebrenica. Moving on is one thing, forgiving another, but forgetting the mothers & daughters left alone after one of the biggest massacres of our time is just a big no-no.

Coraline

Yesterday I watched the 3D stopmotion Coraline..

It was beautifully magical and colourful, and the music.. brilliant!!

If I wouldn’t have known who directed it I would have been completely convinced that this is yet another magical creation by Tim Burton with music by Danny Elfman.. I love them. But no, it’s a Henry Selick movie, the same guy that directed Tim Burtons The Nightmare Before Christmas and the music is by the french composer Bruno Coulais.

The triptic content of the movie made it fantastically interesting and exciting to watch, it was full of the crazy colourful fantasies many of us have had as kids but also worthy the title of a really, really dark nightmare. I wouldn’t show it to really young kids, but kids mostly love to get scared.. and this was just brilliant.. even if you’re an adult.

..next one to watch is one of my childhood favourites All Dogs Go To Heaven.. wathed the beginning of it this morning and just went.. huh?

Just read what the wikipedia has written.. this is the beginning:

In 1939, New Orleans, Charlie B. Barkin,(voiced by Burt Reynolds), a rough-and-tumble German Shepherd mix with a con man’s charm, is working at a casino with his gangster Pit Bull business partner Carface Carruthers (voiced by Vic Tayback). Carface, unwilling to share the earnings, has Charlie locked away at the pound and runs the casino with an iron fist, but with the help of his best friend Itchy (voiced by Dom DeLuise), a nervous Dachshund, he breaks out. Unaware of Carface’s malicious intent, Charlie returns to him expecting open arms, but Carface wants to sever ties with him. To get Charlie out of the picture for good, Carface arranges his death. He takes Charlie out to Mardi Gras, gets him drunk and runs him down with a car, knocking him into the river.

Uhm.. okaay..? And in the video.. is the Alligator a drag-queen?

Whatever.. I loved it then.. will probably hit me how weird and completely unsuitable for kids it is.. but hey, just watch Alice in Wonderland or any childrens movie and you’ll find heaps of complexity and hidden messages that you never expected.

The pictures..

..will be up very soon, I promise!

I have uploaded most of them to facebook, now I just need to fix the rest and make a flickr album.. be patient people.. it’s on it’s way.

Beside that, things are good.. I’m hanging out with friends, trying to spend as much time as possible with Lucky that seems to be fully recovered after the nightmare, enjoying the weather and my car.. and studying.

The course in International Peacekeeping has already started and I need to get my brains together and start working on it before it’s too late! So, that’s what’s up for now. Looking forward to be studying again and beside that I need a new part-time job. The one I have now totally messes up with paying me the right amount of money, and I’m really tired of stalking them with emails to make them pay me. Blah..

Anyways, that’s it for now. Take care out there!

Lucky

How much I would give for my 13 year old poodle to be well again. Her sight is gone, her smell, her hearing, her teeth.. and now she had an epileptic seizure scaring me to death. I was convinced she was dying in my arms. Such a feeling of helplessness.

I’ve had her since I was 10. That’s forever.

You don’t put old blind people to sleep, and she’s been blind for 7 years now. I refuse as long as she shows signs of happiness.. she loves us, she loves physical contact and attention.. and that seems to be all she needs. As long as she isn’t in pain and wags her tail, things are okay.

I just wish she could run around all crazy like she used to. My dearest Lucky, just like a babysister that always understands.

Home & Pictures

I’m back in Malmö.. feels good!

I’ve started to upload the pictures.. there’s quite a lot of them.. like 2500something.. haha

Tonight I’ll provide you with two facebook albums:

Budapest:

& Belgrade:

Enjoy, comment and wait for the rest. :)

The next one will be.. *drums* KOSOVA! Don’t miss it.

For those of you that don´t have me on facebook, I will upload the pictures to flickr soon.. not today.

And the trip? It was fantastic and better than I could have ever expected.. Olli proved to be a great travelling partner, photographer and language-teacher.. Ollis family was really fantastic and I am really happy to have met them.. the timing was perfect, the weather was great.. and our budget somewhat got under half of what we had expected to spend.. mostly thanks to the fact that we got hosted and got to stay in Ollis grandparents apartment in Makarska and didn’t spend a dime for a long time in CG.. plus some of those great deals on accommodation!

One month of travelling around, 8 countries, the greatest of foods, the best of experiences..?
600 euros each. All inclusive. !! Yay!
And don’t go “I spent half of that in India/Bolivia/Ethiopia” on me now, this is Europe.

Now I already miss the family in Crveni Grm.. the food.. the weather.. but mostly Olli.. this is the first time in over a month that we’re separated since he left for two hours to get us bustickets in Budva..

This is not okay! I miss you!

Laku noc

And right, I got them to stamp my passport in Copenhagen..! haha

Going home..

It’s raining in Crveni Grm today..
It’s our first rainy day since the last day in Belgrade and the bus to Mitrovica!

Hopefully it means that we’re bringing the sun to Sweden.

We’re going to Split today and our flight to Copenhagen leaves at 20:30, two hours later we’re practically home. Everything is so close nowadays.

I’ve had the best of times among the nicest of people.. this family is really loveable and I hope to come back to this place again soon.

I’m looking forward to Sweden now.. I miss my mom, my dog.. my car and my new phone.. haha
And I really look forward to be studying again, international relations, one year master programme. Yay!
And a distance course in International peacekeeping at the University of Queensland in Australia. And maybe some Chinese.. and working? …haha.. ehm, I thing I might stay?! :P

But yes, getting back home will be fun.. I’m not sure about the sleeping alone part though. :(

Sarajevo

So we spent two days in the beautiful capital of Bosnia & Hercegovina..

It was a really nice city with a strong oriental feeling and the mix of cultures made it one of the most diverse and interesting places we have visited..

We stayed at Hotel Hayat three minutes from Bascarsija which was great, their top floor has lower ceiling which makes the rooms really cheap. That gave us a really nice price in a perfect location.

We walked Sarajevo and had some kebab, then we accidently met one of Ollis friends when walking down the street and she invited us to a party later on in the evening.. we thought about going there and then to the Dara Bubamara concert.. right after eating some spinach burek and changing clothes.

What went wrong? We went back to the Hotel around seven in the evening to change and then we powernapped! haha.. and then we woke up at 3 in the morning, and got back to sleep. :)

Today we got up early and walked Sarajevo again, it’s not a big city at all so we walked all of it, got to the busstation, and went “home”. :)

So now we’re back in Crveni Grm with only two days left of this adventure..and I just got a big piece of goat cheese to bring back home!! yummmie!

Goodnight!
