My housemate gave me a Moleskine yesterday before leaving for a trip. Today is my last Friday in Copenhagen, Tuesday is my last day at work. Then I have a few days to move and pack before I’m off to spend hours in airplanes, buses and places I have not yet thought of. I don’t know what to expect and I don’t want to know either, I’m going to a new place and it deserves to be treated that way.
No matter how things end up, I have Moleskines full of empty pages and an iPod filled with soundtracks for future memories.
As promised, I give you some random insights into my Barcelona life, through pictures from my old phone.
Photos are taken between January and August 2011.
Finalizing a guide with social media strategies and nerdy recommendations for the office while listening to previously undiscovered tracks. My conclusion is that dubstep and in-ear headphones is a good combination for my workflow, it keeps me bumpy and concentrated even though I was supposed to get out of here hours ago. Good fun.
Here’s some tunes that have been blocking out my surroundings today:
My friend Chriz in introduced me to cool and snappy Azealia Banks when i was in Wawa.
Azealia Banks – 212 (feat. Lazy Jay)
(2011)
Yesterday I discovered the absolutely brilliant TOKiMONSTA.
I know, a lot of music lately – sorry about that. I need to get a good stock of new sounds for my upcoming flights, busrides and a life without access to good internet connection. Also, I have noticed that I almost only post electronic music on the blog – that is because it’s what I’m listening to while in front of the computer. At home, there’s tons of jazz, neosoul and indie music playing, and on occasion, I indulge in dark post rock, cheesy cuban salsa and depressing portuguese fado. There, I said it.
Here’s an old Vetusta Morla song I have been killing lately. It’s none of the above, but awesome.
Porque ser valiente no es sólo cuestión de suerte.
Found Chopin playing a spaced out piano on a wall in Warsaw.
Also, I found a new tune by Time Wharp, which is the first single from his upcoming BLK EP. The record twinkles all the way through and the R&B sample is both soothing and bouncy. Later it all melts together into a cosmic maze of sitar solos and constant pitchshifts and impressions, fading out into nothingness in a way that leaves me craving for more.
Listen for yourself & download this single for free. You can enjoy previously released awesomeness at Time Wharp’s website until BLK will be released via Brooklyn based Astro Nautico on the 23rd of January. Something to look forward to? Yes, yes, yes. And do keep an eye on that label if you like dreamy-electronic music and experimental beats.
I discovered the deep and enchanting voice of Cesária Évora when I first heard her sing together with the Polish singer Kayah in the song Embarcacao. The barefoot diva, as the Cape Verdean morna singer was nicknamed, has always been a good companion for candlelit evenings with red wine. She was also one of the World Food Programmes goodwill ambassadors and I’m listening to her today, as I found out that she has died, 70 years old.
I love it when I randomly feel like listening to an artist and then discover that there is a brand new release out there, waiting to be explored. Goldmund’s latest addition to my world seems just as enchanting as his previous albums. This one is for long flights, beautiful nights and colourful dreaming. Enjoy.
“I can sense a world of heartache
but I love the sound
of your hair when it falls down
from the pillow late at night”
This is a cover by Danish artist My name is not Daisy and I discovered it yesterday when my housemate was singing in the kitchen and I was struck by the amount of beautiful metaphors in it. The original is by the Danish band The Rumour Said Fire and it is also beautiful but far less singable.
And we really like singing along, don’t we?
