Christmas on the beach – thank you, Tulum!

Tulum, Mexico

After our weekend on Caye Caulker, Avina and I took Suz and made our way up north, across the border to Mexico, to my favourite dreamly little hippie paradise get-away in Mexico – Tulum.

We spent Christmas on the beach and crashed a random Christmas party for staff at Waye, my favourite bar in Tulum. We also had two mind blowing dinners at Casa Banana, and breakfast from heaven in La Zebra. Food was great, people were wonderful, and everything was really nice about the jungle beach town. Before leaving we also paid a quick visit to the Tulum ruins, but it was raining and we didn’t see much apart from a poor little lion baby that tourists were paying to take pictures with.

I love Tulum, Avina loved Tulum, and Christmas couldn’t have been spent in a more awesome way. The only thing missing were our loved one’s – but as we said, we wished they had been there with us – not that we had been anywhere else. Christmas on the beach is the best way to do it, hands down.

Avina on CC island

My sister-ish Avina left the building the other day, and what’s left of her and our one month of adventures in Belize and Mexico are memories and a million photos, videos and mosquito bites. It was absolutely wonderful having her here, and I couldn’t be happier that I officially need a vacation after my rather intense Christmas “vacation”.

I will be sharing the photos gradually, and here’s the first batch from the first couple of days that Avina was here – the first thing we did was of course to take the boat over to Caye Caulker, dive and dance. Luc was with us the first days, and then hopped on a flight to celebrate Christmas on another island – so we continued on our own.

Enjoy!

Halloween 2014: The blue ninja was nowhere to be seen.

IMG_7147

I embraced my Halloween costume this year. I’m totally feeling the idea of cosplay and experiencing living a character for fun – I loved being a blue ninja! Jumping around in my sneakers and comfortable ninja-friendly outfit, I felt strong, fast, invincible and like I could battle all the monsters in there. In Belize, the Halloween party is said to be the biggest of the year apart from the carnival. And yes, people did go all in on their costumes and some were super cool, fun and creative, though there were maybe one too many “Officer Booty on Duty” girls in there..

By 1:30 am the party went bananas, the rain had started pouring down and people stood crammed by the bar instead of dancing since there was no space anywhere. People wanted to go home, so I dropped them off and went home to dance around in the house instead.

When I got home a friend had posted on twitter: “Went to a fancy dress party. My friend went as a ninja. Didn’t see her all night.” haha!

Finally Published my Baby!

There’s a new page in my “projects” section! I’m very happy to announce that I have published my first personal photo book, with my favourite of portraits captured throughout the last couple of years, and including a couple of friends. Below is a small selection of some of the spreads, and there are a couple more in the preview. The book is 66 pages in total.Click here to order your copy. :)

Publication: Photo Book – Faces by Caroline Bach

September 2014

So I finally got my photo book with portraits from around the world published! This is a collection of my favourite faces photographed between the years of 2008 and 2014, and I offer it in a beautiful 10x8in (20x25cm) 66-page Hard Cover edition with the highest quality Pearl Photo paper available. The colours will pop, all details will come out – and flipping through the pages will hopefully be a beautiful experience for anybody. It’s not cheap to offer books that can be shipped as single copies, so at the price of USD 79.90 I’m not making any profit – but my photography has always been about sharing photos and stories, so I hope some people will be able to enjoy this despite the price. The book can also be ordered in a slightly less amazing Soft Cover edition via Amazon, and is then at USD 75. (Will post link here as soon as it’s up – should be tomorrow.)

Click any of the photos below to see more of the book and order your copy.

I like to talk to strangers. In making new connections, I am constantly reminded that every person has a unique story that deserves to be told – each story teaches me something new and invites me to learn, think and feel. While language sometimes can be a barrier, facial expressions have proven to be a universal way to communicate across all cultures and ages. In this book I want to use this universal language to share a selection of genuine stories, feelings, thoughts and realities – through faces.

I am not a photographer who plans a frame in detail – I’m a very curious person who loves to take pictures of life, and to share. I always try to preserve the realities I experience and the realities that people choose to invite me to, and I keep my photos as dear memories of the moments I have lived and the people I have met.

With a strong focus on photography, and a short note of context, I want to invite you to look, feel and listen to what the individuals in this photo book have to share, and take a moment to fill in the blanks about their experiences, emotions and uniqueness.

Thank you for accompanying me in my curiosity for people and the world, I hope you will enjoy this journey as much as I do.

Caroline Bach
