The Wall

Die Wand by Marlen Haushofer (1962)

Nearly forgotten after her death in 1970, Haushofer began to attract attention again when this novel was republished in the 1980s. Although it is described by the publisher as “a startling redefinition of ecofeminist utopian fiction”,  this first-person narrative has been characterized by most commentators as dystopian. The Wall is a wonderful, profoundly moving novel about a woman who is staying in a remote hunting lodge in an alpine valley and wakes up one day to find there is an invisible wall between her and the rest of the world. Imprisoned on the mountainside, the unnamed narrator recounts her struggle to survive and her attempt to discover the essence of her own personality, femininity, and humanity. She finds a dog, a cat and a cow and learns how to deal with the wildlife around her. Each of the animals is a wonderfully drawn character which she draws great comfort from and The Wall itself is a very fascinating phenomenon, it could be symbolic of psychological or political isolation. The minimalist plot is enhanced by rich description and wise insight, and the translation succeeds in capturing the author’s fluid, lyrical style.

I merged some reviews and here it is, the Wall, die Wand, the book I’ve been looking for for years! I googled, googled again, and found it! Seems like it really was good, it wasn’t just my imagination.. but I can’t believe I actually read this when I was 12, that’s crazy. haha I will read it again now, 2,5 euros from Swedish Adlibris.. More expensive through Amazon. Order it!

Shyt.me

Procrastination deluxe?

I’m very creative when I’m supposed to be studying.. anyway, this is it:

I have started a little project, called Shyt.me which basically stands for Share Your Thing.. and is a tumblrblog where anybody can submit their every-day pictures, thoughts, quotes, videos and so on, from all over the world.

I thought it would be a fun idea to create this to see what kind of pictures random people from random places would post, and to put up stickers around the countries that me and my friends visit, that would make it an international web page to share every-day life with the world.

It’s easy to post either via the page, or by sending an email or mms to the email address shytme(at)tumblr.com. The original thought was to print the email address on the stickers and just tell people to send anything to it.. wonder if that could work.

Thanks to the power of facebook the page is already alive.. it’s amazing how great facebook is when you have friends around the world that you don’t keep in touch with on a daily basis.. but still wouldn’t want to loose contact with.

Anyway..

I welcome you all to shyt on shyt.me by clicking SHYT in the menu on the right.. feel free to spread the word.. or the shyt if you prefer to call it like that.. or, as Josie would say: “are you shytting me?!”

This is some kind of world experiment.. let’s do this together. :)

Lucky forever.

She was the best dog I could have ever wished for. Time has passed now, I don’t expect to be greeted when I come home any more. But all is good, there were no other options, she got all the attention she deserved and had a loving family all the way.. and she was a happy dog, so loving, intelligent and sweet. I’m not even sad, I just miss her. My Lucky, forever.

Password protected thoughts

I guess you all understand why, even if I’m not writing private things, it’s still private enough.

If you know me, you will guess the password, it’s not there to make it difficult for people that know me, it’s for those just googling my name to have access to my thoughts.. future employers, random people.

If they want to know something about my life they can use the contact form to ask..

secrets

Things are good, my room has received an adult-makeover.. so it’s totally liveable right now.. and I feel great in it.. :)

I am beginning my Global Political Studies master programme next week, and I’m really looking forward to it! I can’t forget the International Peacekeeping course that I’m doing right now though. It’s also fun and really interesting, but the assignments that we get every week are not easy.. and I don’t really want to do them. But I have to, for me.

Tarantino does it again

Just came back from the premiere of Inglorious Basterds [sic!]

So I’ve seen yet another Quentin Tarantino movie, and he has done it again.
What he does is hardcore art, he is messing around with himself, his characters and the audience to the extent that you lose the ability to decide whether you should turn away your head in disgust or just laugh out loud. The way the sarcasm and ultraviolence works together in the kind of atmosphere only Tarantino can create, and those pretty little details that just make you go “ha?”. It’s really, really good.

Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Deathproof. And now this one.
There’s a lot of blood, but if you look closely, you’ll see the details.. they are everywhere!

I would have posted the trailer.. but as usually, I think it spoils too much of the movie, just go watch it.. if you have appreciated his previous movies and if the violence doesn’t scare you off, you’ll surely enjoy.

Goodnight.

Peace one Day

Saw this documentary the other day..

Making peace is not impossible. All that people need to do is to believe that the smallest action can make a difference. And I cried, because it was so beautiful.. and he held my hand and said; you’ll get there.. and I want to, and I will.
