fika!

Fika means having a “coffee break” usually accompanied by something sweet, like cinnamon rolls. It’s probably one of my favourite words in Swedish especially as I usually don’t drink coffee and saying “let’s meet for coffee” never makes any sense for me.. Going for fika means going to a place you like with a person you enjoy spending time with, drinking something you feel like drinking, eating something sweet, and talking about anything.

It’s such a perfect word, especially at this time of the year. :)

Gonatt!

Eloisa to Abelard

How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray’r accepted, and each wish resign’d;
Labour and rest, that equal periods keep;
“Obedient slumbers that can wake and weep;”
Desires compos’d, affections ever ev’n,
Tears that delight, and sighs that waft to Heav’n.
Grace shines around her with serenest beams,
And whisp’ring angels prompt her golden dreams.
For her th’ unfading rose of Eden blooms,
And wings of seraphs shed divine perfumes,
For her the Spouse prepares the bridal ring,
For her white virgins hymeneals sing,
To sounds of heav’nly harps she dies away,
And melts in visions of eternal day.

Alexander Pope (1717)

Inception & the science of dreams

Found a nice article in New Scientist that relates to the movie Inception. Look through the comments as well as they add some interestingness to it.  If you have seen the movie, go ahead and read it for some real and fun facts. If you haven’t.. do that first. It’s a good one and sparked a lot of interesting conversations between me and my friends. Funny thing it came out just when we were in the mood of discussing dreams, lucid dreaming and being able to record and save dreams. It’s such a perfect and colourful theme that anybody can relate to somehow.

Books <3

If you live in Malmö and you love to read, you need to go to ‘sopstationen’ behind gamla slagthuset which is like a second hand warehouse with all kinds of stuff. They have a book section which says ‘all books for free!’.

I found it today but I didn’t have time enough to look it through. I guess it could be fun to browse for some hidden treasures if you’re in the right mood. I’m in a ‘only-study-reading’ -time at the moment so I just got a book with an overview of philosophy that I’ve been wanting for a while.. But really, that’s it, no more books for me for now.. I don’t have space..!
